Claire Elise Boucher,/bu:'SeI/boo-SHAY,[1] was born on the 17th of March, 1988. The name she is given is Grimes. [2][3] Early work can be described as "lo-fi R&B to futuristic dance-pop",[4] with influences from hip-hop and electronic music, as well as rock. The songs she sings often speak to gender issues and science fiction. The singer has recorded five albums. Grimes was raised in Vancouver before moving to Montreal. She began her independently-based music career in the mid 2000s. In 2010, she dropped two albums with Arbutus Records, Geidi Primes (and Halfaxa), respectively. After joining 4AD her popularity grew with fame thanks to Visions which was her third studio album. Visions includes the singles "Genesis" and "Oblivion" as well as the Canadian industry's Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year. Her fourth studio album Art Angels was released in 2015. It received high praise from the press and critics, while many publications voted it the best album of the year. Sixteen years later, her fifth album Miss Anthropocene, was made available in the year 2000. Grimes is the judge for Alter Ego, a music contest.
